accepting #5 plastics (along with #1 and #2 already accepted),
continue #2 plastic bags, clean & colored glass bottles & jars in
“Glass Only” bins, tin & aluminum containers, paper & flat cardboard

students by bringing flat cardboard to the recycling trailers at
Frankfort High School, Benzie Central High School and Betsie Valley
Elementary School.
The program will also increase collections of miscellaneous items
not accepted at recycling sites throughout the year. These

Township
Clean Up Days The Recycling program will accept
styrofoam FREE at each clean up day event throughout the summer of
2010. We will work with each municipality when they will conduct
township / village clean up days to accept and recycle styrofoam
from their residents at no charge. If townships want us to recycle
televisions, computers and other electronics at their clean up day
event, we will do so for $5 each. Charging $5 per electronic will
help offset our cost of collecting and transporting to a recovery
facility.
Recycling Reminders:
- Recyclers should be reminded to NEVER put Styrofoam in any
recycling bin. Styrofoam will only be accepted at
scheduled collections and clean-up days.
- Recyclers should be reminded to NEVER put plastic bags in a
recycling bin, only in the green barrel provided at the sites.
- Recyclers should be reminded to NEVER leave anything on the
ground at a recycling site.
- Recyclers should be reminded to ALWAYS take their corrugated
cardboard to school cardboard recycling trailers where students
earn money from cardboard collected at those locations. It’s a
great program and worth the extra effort!
Businesses are invited and encouraged to subscribe to the Green
Benzie Business Recycling Initiative. They will be charged a fee
and issued a permit that would allow them access to the residential
recycling sites throughout Benzie County. Information packets are
available at both Chamber of Commerce offices or by request at
882-055 NO COMMERCIAL USE IS ALLOWED WITHOUT A PERMIT.
